INTRODUCING VOLUNTEER GUIDES TO CHERRY HILL'S RICH HISTORY.(Local)

When teachers bring their students to Historic Cherry Hill, they often ask if the guides are teachers.

"They can't believe it when we tell them no," says Rebecca Watrous, education director for the historic house museum at 5231/2 So. Pearl St.

Some of the volunteers who take the approximately 2,000 or more grade-school children who come through the house each year, are in fact former teachers, but that is not a requirement.

As Cherry Hill looks this month for additional volunteer museum teachers to add to its staff of six, Watrous says the real criteria are a liking for children and history, good communications skills and enthusiasm.
