Qld: Socialist think tank re forms
Queensland Labor and union figures are re-forming the socialist think-tank, the Fabian
Society, after a 16-year break.
Former Labor Party secretary and now Brisbane City Councillor TERRY HAMPSON says a
group met at the Paddington Workers Club in Brisbane on April 5 to re-form the Fabian
Society's Queensland branch.
Cr HAMPSON, who was the secretary of the Queensland branch of the Fabian Society for
seven years, says the branch folded in 1985 when local interest waned following the movement
to form one national branch.
He says a strong push to revitalise the organisational wing of the ALP and move away
from factionalism has sparked the re-forming of the branch.
Cr HAMPSON denies claims the society is an unaccountable and secretive group.
